Car air con leads, when 78% of the year's regas searches land in three months.

Nobody in the UK sells a car air con lead at a printed price. The work comes through FixMyCar, which now charges a flat monthly subscription on a 12-month minimum term, through Cool Car's franchise, and through agencies such as Leads Everyday that run ads for you. Buy the click yourself and a car air con search costs £0.80 to £1.92.

This guide is for mobile regas engineers and small garages doing car and van air con. Fitting and servicing air conditioning in homes and offices is a different trade, covered in air conditioning leads. MOTs and servicing are in garage leads, and the all-round van mechanic in mobile mechanic leads.

The car air con rule lead sellers leave out

"No service provider may fill an air conditioning system with fluorinated greenhouse gases where an abnormal amount of refrigerant has leaked from that system, and the necessary repair to the system has not been completed."

That's the 2009 regulations on car air con, lightly trimmed. The driver who rings because the air con is "blowing warm and has no gas in it" often isn't a regas lead at all. It's a leak to find first, and Kwik Fit won't re-gas an empty car without a pressure test.

Where we stand

We don't sell car air con leads. We help you get your own.

This guide is the honest version of what buying car air con leads costs, and who else gets them. What we do instead is build car air con engineers a website that turns visits into calls, and run Google Ads in an account in your own name, so every lead that comes in is a customer who found you, and nobody else was sold it.

Who is searching

In the UK, "air con regas" is a search about the car.

"air con regas" gets 27,100 UK searches a month and "air con regas near me" 22,200, and every result on the first page of Google for the first is about cars: Kwik Fit, Halfords, the RAC, the AA and local regas specialists. Add "car air con regas near me" at 8,100 and the repair search, "car air con repair near me", at 9,900.

Drivers also search the chains by name: "halfords air con regas" 9,900 times a month and "kwik fit air con regas" 2,900. Those are the prices you're quoted against: Kwik Fit from £74.95 for the older gas and Halfords from £74.99. The mobile side is smaller and dearer to reach: "mobile air con regas" gets 1,900 searches a month, and "mobile air con regas near me" costs £1.83 a click.

What the job pays

A paid lead eats most of an R134a car regas. It sits easier on an R1234yf.

Since no seller prints a per-lead price for car air con, the fairest yardstick is what a lead from your own ad costs on the search that brings each job in. Here it is against four published prices, if you win one quote in 3.

JobPublished priceSearch and lead costCost of a win
Pressure leak test on an empty system£19.95"car air con repair near me", about £26£79, 395% of the job
Regas, older R134a car£65 to £74.99"car air con regas near me", about £17£52, 74% of the job
Mobile regas, average booked£109.70"mobile air con regas near me", about £25£75, 68% of the job
Regas, newer R1234yf car£130 to £139.99"r1234yf regas near me", about £14£43, 32% of the job

The leak test is Kwik Fit's price. The two regas ranges run from Checkatrade's cost guide (March 2026) to Halfords' "from" price for the same gas, and the mobile figure is FixMyCar's average mobile regas booked. Ranges are worked at their middle. Winning one quote in 3 is MyJobQuote's figure for its own trades; nobody publishes an independent UK figure. Lead costs assume 7.33% of clicks get in touch.

As a rough rule, winning a job should cost about 10 to 15 percent of what it pays. No regas gets there at one win in 3: an R134a regas costs 74% of a £70 job, a mobile regas 68% and an R1234yf regas 32%. A leak test on its own costs 395% of what it pays. So paid regas leads only work if you win far more than one in 3, or if the first job leads to the next one.

Win the car owner's call, not the quote

A driver who searched "car air con regas near me" and rang you isn't comparing five quotes, which is why the win rate on your own leads can sit well above one in 3. Put your price by gas on your website and the ones who ring have already said yes to it.

The car's regas comes round again

Checkatrade says most manufacturers recommend a recharge at least every two years. Keep the driver's number and the car's gas on file, and the next regas costs you a text, not a lead.

Your numbers

What can you spend to land one car air con job profitably?

Pick a car air con job, say how many quotes you usually win, and put in what a lead costs you, whether that is a share of a monthly subscription or your own ad. It starts on a mobile regas at FixMyCar's average. Flip to the R1234yf regas and watch the share move.

Who sends the work

Car air con work comes by subscription, franchise or agency. Nobody sells it by the lead.

Here is everyone we found sending car air con jobs. Each line is in the firm's own words, and where a price isn't published we say so.

FixMyCar moved car repairers to a year-long subscription in October 2026

FixMyCar (WhoCanFixMyCar) used to charge a fee on each job won. Its packages page now offers Standard at £250, Premium at £499 and Pro at £999 a month plus VAT, with "Fair usage limits apply". The old style survives as Starter: a £99 plus VAT sign-up, £120 a month plus VAT and a 10% fee on jobs won.

The terms set the first subscription term at "a minimum of twelve (12) months", renewing automatically, and say you "remain liable for the full amount of Subscription Fees payable in respect of the applicable Subscription Term". Each mobile mechanic operator needs its own subscription. If your use "materially exceeds" what your tier expects, FixMyCar can require you to move up a tier or limit "access to new Jobs", and when it judges usage it "may disregard seasonal fluctuations". You "must not attempt to negotiate, accept or undertake Jobs with Drivers outside the Portal."

For a regas business that matters more than for most. Standard is £3,000 plus VAT over the minimum term, about 4 R134a regases at Checkatrade's £65 every month, including the months when hardly anyone is searching. On the driver side its London regas page lists 228 garages against 26 regas jobs that month, and its mobile regas page gives £109.70 as the average mobile regas booked.

Cool Car sells a car air con franchise with the leads included

Cool Car Air Conditioning's 2026 franchise brochure says "A Cool Car franchise costs £15,000 plus VAT", then a management fee of £35 a week in year one rising to £57.50 from year four, which "covers costs such as advertising and lead generation". Its busiest areas, Reading and Bedford, had "around 1,700 leads each" in a year. Each franchise has a dedicated territory, and the franchise page promises "you get the leads direct to you." The same brochure says plainly that "winter can be very quiet". The trade-off is that the webpage, the Google listing and the name are Cool Car's, not yours.

Leads Everyday and AutoNiche run car air con ads for you

Leads Everyday says it generates "exclusive, high-quality leads for vehicle air conditioning specialists across the UK" with a page built for your business and Google Ads behind it. Its terms charge "a flat monthly fee as agreed during your consultation", with ad spend "paid directly to Google", cancellation at the end of the billing period, and lead forecasts that "are not guaranteed". They also put the paperwork on you: you must ensure "your business holds all necessary licences, certifications, and insurance", which for car air con means your F gas recovery qualification. AutoNiche Marketing builds "lead generation and enquiry systems exclusively for UK car air conditioning specialists" on Facebook and Google, with prices given on a call. Neither publishes a fee.

Bark has no car air con category, and Checkatrade has one

Checkatrade lists "Vehicle Air Conditioning Servicing / Repair" as a trade. Bark's air conditioning category is for buildings, and its car mechanics category is the nearest it gets. Zapo sells leads to car garages but has no air con page, and Leads Do Work and MyJobQuote don't list car air con at all. A driver ringing round for the cheapest regas is what the shared-lead trap is about.

Everything here about WhoCanFixMyCar's contract comes from its own published terms and conditions, last read on 16 October 2026. Terms get revised, so check yours against the current version before you act on anything.

Buying the click yourself

A car air con click costs £0.80 to £1.92, and the repair search is the dearest.

Nobody searches for a seller here. "car air con regas leads", "car air conditioning leads", "regas leads" and "car air con marketing" all came back with no searches and no bids. The driver's side is busy: "car air con repair near me" is the dearest at £1.92 a click, and "air con regas" costs £0.90 across 27,100 searches a month. For the last column we assume 7.33% of clicks get in touch, which is WordStream's conversion rate for home improvement search ads, measured on American campaigns.

Google Ads data for the UK, pulled 16 October 2026. Click prices are bid estimates, so treat them as a guide to where your own costs will land. These are yearly averages: in June most of them are busier, and in December far quieter.

That puts a car air con lead at about £11 to £26. The repair lead, at about £26, is the one most likely to be a bigger job than a regas. "r1234yf regas near me" is small at 320 a month, but it is a driver who already knows the car needs the dearer gas. "cheap air con regas near me" is £0.92 a click and tells you what that driver wants to talk about.

  • Price R134a and R1234yf separately in the ad
  • Bid hardest from April to August
  • Ask the car year before you quote
  • Your name on the ad the driver taps
  • Clicks paid to Google, nothing added
  • An ad account that leaves with you

Most of the year's regas searches land in three summer months, so set a budget that rises in May and falls back in autumn: how much to spend on Google Ads helps with the figure, and the Google Ads guide for tradesmen explains why a click costs more when everyone bids at once. The "mobile air con regas" results open with a map of local firms, so a Google Business Profile earns its keep here.

Before you take the job

Car air con work needs your own F gas ticket, but no company certificate.

gov.uk says "You must have a qualification to recover refrigerant from mobile air conditioning systems" in vans under 3.5 tonnes and cars with 8 seats or fewer, from City and Guilds, the Institute of the Motor Industry or Skills and Education Group. Its company certification page adds: "You don't need a company certificate to service: … car and van mobile air-conditioners". That is the opposite of building air con, where the firm needs certifying too.

The car air con ticket is a short course

The law calls it a training attestation, under Regulation 307/2008 as kept in UK law. The IMI runs a Defra-approved refrigerant handling award, now covering R1234yf, and a related IMI course is listed at £250 plus VAT.

A trainee can recover car gas under you

The same regulation lets someone enrolled on the course recover refrigerant for up to 12 months, as long as a qualified person supervises. Handy when the summer rush needs a second pair of hands.

Gas from the car goes to a licensed site

gov.uk: "It is against the law to release F gas into the atmosphere on purpose unnecessarily." Recovered gas goes by a registered waste carrier to a licensed waste facility.

A seller won't check any of this for you. Leads Everyday's terms leave the certifications to the buyer, and a lead from someone who never asked costs the same whether you can legally do the job or not.

The lead you can't just regas

An empty car air con system is a leak job first, and filling it is an offence.

Under the Motor Vehicles (Refilling of Air Conditioning Systems by Service Providers) Regulations 2009, filling a car system that has leaked an abnormal amount, before it is repaired, carries a fine of up to level 3 on the standard scale, enforced by the local council. Some loss is normal: FixMyCar says a system loses about 10 to 15% a year. A system that is completely empty is not that.

What Kwik Fit does with an empty car

Kwik Fit says it is "unable to re-gas an air-conditioning system if the vehicle arrives with no refrigerant at all" without a pressure test, "If a leak is detected, we won't be able to re-gas the system until the fault is repaired", and "The leak test costs £19.95".

Price the empty car on the phone

Ask when it last worked and whether it went off slowly or all at once. Quote the leak test and the regas as two steps, and the driver isn't surprised when the first one finds a fault.

On a platform that charges for the lead, the empty-system driver costs the same as the one due a routine regas. From your own ad you can say it before they ring: a leak test first on any car with no gas in it. That is also where the repair work comes from, which is why "car air con repair near me" is worth bidding on.

Which gas

R1234yf cars pay about double, and they need their own kit.

gov.uk lists F gases with a global warming potential above 150 as banned in all new cars. The car air con directive behind that rule set the date at 1 January 2017 and kept an exception for refilling systems fitted before it. On gov.uk's table, R134a scores 1,430 and R1234yf 4. Kwik Fit says cars built from 2014 to 2016 "could require either gas", and that a small number of electric cars now use R744, which its centres can't do.

WhoR134a regasR1234yf regas
Checkatrade cost guide£65£130
Kwik Fit, from£74.95£139.95
Halfords, from£74.99£139.99

Halfords' R134a price is on its R134a regas page. Checkatrade's guide was last updated in March 2026.

One car air con machine or two circuits

City and Guilds lists recovery stations as R134a only, R1234yf only, or dual. TEXA sells a station "equipped with two separate tanks and circuits" for both. If your van carries an R134a-only machine, every newer car is a lead you can't take.

Ask the car's year first

The car's year tells you the gas, the price band and whether your kit can do it. City and Guilds notes R1234yf is "Mildly flammable" where R134a is not, which is worth knowing before you work on one in a customer's garage.

Through the year

Car air con searches rise about 69 times from December to June.

UK searches for "car air con regas near me" went from 390 in December to 27,100 in June. May, June and July held 78% of the year's searches, and the five months from October to February 4%.

Pay for car air con clicks in the summer

Your own ads can switch on in April and off in September, so the money follows the searches. A fee that runs for 12 months can't. That is the strongest reason to buy the click yourself in this trade.

Car air con repairs carry the winter

"car air con repair near me" swings about 27 times rather than 69, with 1,000 searches in December against 390 for a regas, and its summer share is 70%. Its peak is 27,100 a month. Leak finding and repairs are the car air con work that holds up out of season.

Where the lead came from

Check how a car air con lead was collected before you ring the driver.

The ICO expects a business that buys contact details to check where they came from, in proportion to the risk, and a seller's word that the data is fine isn't enough. The cases that have hit home improvement firms are set out in our roofing leads guide.

Before you pay for car air con leads, ask:

  • How long is the minimum term?
  • Does the fee run through the winter?
  • Which website did the driver fill in?
  • How many other engineers see the job?
  • Which gas does the car take?
  • Does the system still hold any gas?

The first two decide what the year costs you. The last two decide whether there is a regas in the lead at all.

Which way to go

A three-month car trade fits a fee you can switch off in the autumn.

Use a platform if

  • You have no reviews yet
  • You work a garage all year anyway
  • You can answer fast
  • Your area is busy year round

Think twice if

  • Regas is most of your work
  • The term runs twelve months
  • Nobody asks which gas
  • Many engineers see the job

Run your own if

  • You want to stop in September
  • You do R1234yf and repairs
  • You want the call to yourself
  • The ad account is yours to take

Car air con clicks are cheap and the season is short, so the ads you can turn up in May and down in September fit the work better than a fee that runs all year. If you service and repair as well, the workshop side is in garage leads; glass film is in window tinting leads, every other trade in our guide to trade leads, and before paying for a listing in Checkatrade's car air con category, read is Checkatrade worth it.

Our sources

Where every car air con figure here came from.

We have a stake in this: we build websites and run Google Ads for trades. That's why FixMyCar's terms and Cool Car's brochure are quoted rather than summarised, and why the per-lead column admits it rests on an American conversion rate.

Seller pages and terms were read on 16 October 2026, and the UK search and click data came from Google Ads the same day. Prices are from Checkatrade, Kwik Fit, Halfords and FixMyCar. The rules are from gov.uk on F gas qualifications, company certification and recovering F gas, Regulation 307/2008, the 2009 refilling regulations and the car air con directive; and lead consent from the ICO.

Questions regas engineers ask

Car air con leads, answered.

How much do car air con leads cost in the UK?
No seller we found prints a price for a single car air con lead. FixMyCar now charges garages and mobile mechanics a flat £250, £499 or £999 a month plus VAT, on a 12-month minimum term. Leads Everyday and AutoNiche run campaigns for a fee they quote on a call. Buy the click yourself and a car air con search costs £0.80 to £1.92, roughly £11 to £26 a lead.
Who sends car air con regas work in the UK?
FixMyCar, where drivers compare regas quotes (228 garages listed in London alone); Cool Car Air Conditioning, which sells franchises with leads included; Leads Everyday and AutoNiche, which run ads for car air con specialists; and Checkatrade, which has a vehicle air conditioning category. Bark has no car air con category.
Do I need an F gas qualification to regas cars?
Yes. gov.uk says you must have a qualification to recover refrigerant from air conditioning in cars with 8 seats or fewer and vans under 3.5 tonnes, from City and Guilds, the IMI or Skills and Education Group. Unlike building air conditioning, you don't need a company F gas certificate for car and van air con.
Can I regas a car that has no gas in it at all?
Not until you know why it is empty. Since 2009 it has been an offence to fill a car air con system that has leaked an abnormal amount before the leak is repaired, with a fine up to level 3. Kwik Fit won't re-gas a car that arrives empty without a pressure test first, which it charges £19.95 for.
What is the price difference between R134a and R1234yf regas?
About double. Checkatrade puts an R134a regas at £65 and an R1234yf one at £130. Kwik Fit starts at £74.95 and £139.95, Halfords at £74.99 and £139.99. Cars made from 1 January 2017 use R1234yf; Kwik Fit says cars built from 2014 to 2016 could use either.
Is car air con regas work seasonal?
Very. In the last 12 months, UK searches for "car air con regas near me" went from 390 in December to 27,100 in June, about 69 times. May, June and July held 78% of the year's searches.
Is a car air con franchise worth it for the leads?
Cool Car charges £15,000 plus VAT to join, then a management fee of £35 a week in the first year rising to £57.50 from the fourth, which it says covers advertising and lead generation. You get a dedicated territory and its brand. Its own brochure says winter can be very quiet.
What should I ask before paying for car air con leads?
How long the minimum term is, whether the fee runs through winter, which website the driver filled in, how many other engineers see the job, which gas the car takes, and whether the system still holds any gas. The ICO puts the checking of where a lead came from on the buyer.
