Google Ads for tilers.

Short version: a tiler's click is cheap. "tiler near me" averaged £3.33 in UK keyword data pulled August 2026, while "emergency plumber" averaged £22.57, 6.8 times as much. The trouble is the size of the work. A splashback or a bath surround is worth a few hundred pounds, and the advertising behind one won job can eat half of it. Build the campaign around whole bathrooms, price the small jobs from photos, and shut out the tile shoppers.

Three things set tiling apart. Google's own planner files some "tiler" searches alongside people buying tiles, so the trade name in your keyword does not filter shoppers out. The obvious negatives, "tile" and "tiles", both block customers. And there is no Local Services Ads category for wall tiling in the UK, only a flooring one.

The small-job sum

A cheap click still has to pay for a small job.

Divide £3.33 by 7.33%, the only published conversion benchmark for home-services search ads and an American one, and each lead costs about £45. Under its terms, up to three trades can buy each MyJobQuote lead, and its help centre expects a trade to win about one quote in 3. Win one in 3 from your own ads and each job you win carries about £136 of advertising. Set against Checkatrade's June 2026 tiling prices:

JobTypical price£136 as a share of the job
Tiling round a bath£200 to £30045% to 68%
Kitchen splashback, worktop to wall units£27550%
Tiling a shower£250 to £90015% to 55%
Kitchen floor£80017%
Bathroom walls and floor£800 to £1,20011% to 17%

Everything here about MyJobQuote's contract comes from its own published terms and conditions, last read on 23 September 2026. Terms get revised, so check yours against the current version before you act on anything.

A rough rule of thumb says the advertising behind a won job should stay around 10 to 15 percent of what the job is worth. At £136, that means a job of roughly £909 to £1,363. A £800 to £1,200 bathroom is the only job on the list that comes close; a £200 bath surround never will. So the ads, the headlines and the website they land on should talk about whole bathrooms, and the small work should come in at a lower cost per quote.

That lower cost comes from not driving out. Tiling customers often buy their own tiles and want labour only, and a splashback is a few square metres. A quote form on your website that asks for photos of the wall or floor, the rough size, and whether the tiles are already bought lets you price it from the van and reply the same day. What goes on the price you send back is in how to write a quote, why the same-day reply matters is in how fast to reply to a lead, and the budget question is answered in how much to spend on Google Ads.

What a click costs

Bathrooms cost the most to win. Floors cost the least.

Google's Keyword Planner, UK, pulled October 2026. Each range is the planner's low and high estimate of the bid it takes to appear above the free results. That is a separate measure from the average click price quoted earlier, so the two never share a table here.

"bathroom tilers near me" tops out at £3.91 and "floor tilers near me" at £2.11, so the bathroom auction reaches 1.9 times as high, on 590 searches a month against 720. Kitchens sit near bathrooms at £0.74 to £3.77. Give bathrooms, kitchens and floors an ad group each, with their own headlines and their own photos, so each budget follows the work it buys.

Commercial tiling is a different animal: "commercial tiling contractors" reaches £7.47 at the top, on about 30 searches a month. If you chase contracts, a separate campaign with a small budget is enough to find out whether any of them are in your area.

Tilers and tiles

Google reads some tiler searches as tile shopping.

The planner reports some searches with identical figures, which is how it shows searches Google treats as one. Several of those pairs put a "tiler" search next to someone buying tiles:

Search with "tiler"Reported as the same asSearches a monthTop-of-page bid
tiler bathroombath tiles49,500£0.32 to £1.47
tiler shoptiles shops8,100£0.66 to £2.55
ceramic tilerceramic tile4,400£0.32 to £1.24

The 49,500 searches a month behind "tiler bathroom" are mostly people choosing bathroom tiles, and the low bid range says so. Google's exact match shows ads on searches with "the same meaning or same intent" as the keyword, and broad match goes wider still. Putting "tiler" in a keyword is not enough to keep shoppers away. Read the search terms report every week for the first month and the negatives below will do the rest.

Stop paying for these

Most tiling searches are somebody buying a box of tiles.

Of the 5,943 search ideas the planner gives for a tiler (October 2026), 4,277 contain the word "tile" or "tiles" and only 288 contain "tiler" or "tilers". 135 name B&Q, Wickes or Topps. The biggest suggestion of all, "carpet places near me", gets 40,500 a month against 6,600 for "tiler near me".

The tempting shortcut is to add the word "tiles" or "tile" as a negative and be done. Google never stretches a negative to cover a plural or a close variant, so neither one touches "tiler". But each blocks people who want to hire somebody:

Customer searchBlocked by a negative forSearches a month
regrouting tiles"tiles"880
re grout bathroom tiles"tiles"590
tile company near me"tile"880
tile installers near me"tile"390
tile fitters near me"tile"320

"Tile" costs you the most, because people looking for a fitter often type "tile" rather than "tiler". "Tiles" is defensible if you do not take regrouting work. The cleaner route is to leave both alone and block what travels with them: the retailer and showroom names, "sticky", "self adhesive", "painted", "shop" and "sale", each in every form you want stopped. Add the jobs and training words too, even though none turned up in this pull. For the stock list of words no tiler wants to pay for, see why Google Ads are not working.

Local Services Ads

A category for floors, nothing for the walls.

Local Services Ads are Google's pay-per-lead listings, and only the trades on Google's list can run them. The UK list has no tiling category. It does have Flooring services, which Google's UK screening page describes as "floor installation, repair, sanding and refinishing". Tiles are not mentioned, and neither are walls.

So if most of your work is floors, that description is worth reading against what you do, and Google makes the call at screening, which it says takes three to four weeks on average. Bathroom walls, splashbacks and showers have nowhere to go, so for that work you are on Search: your keywords, your ad, your website. Accepted flooring firms pay per lead, and that includes a missed call in opening hours where the caller hangs on past 20 seconds, as well as answered calls, voicemails, texts and emails. The wider picture is in Google Local Services Ads, with trades that are on the list in Google Ads for plumbers and Google Ads for electricians, and one that is not in Google Ads for locksmiths.

When to spend

A flat year with one October rush in it.

UK searches for "tilers near me" sat between 5,400 and 6,600 a month for ten months of the year, rose to 12,100 in October and dropped to 3,600 in December, 3.4 times apart (Google Ads keyword data, pulled September 2026; every figure is a rounded band). American guides for tile installers plan around a spring rush. The UK figures show no spring peak at all.

Run a steady budget all year, raise it for October and drop it for December. Move the daily budget to do it: Google aims each month at 30.4 times the average daily figure, so cutting hours from the ad schedule just squeezes the same spend into fewer of them.

Setting up the account

Set it up for a job measured in square metres, not minutes.

SettingWhat Google doesFor a tiler
Location optionBy default it includes people showing interest in your area from elsewhere; Presence limits ads to people actually in itPresence, so a bathroom job comes from somebody who lives within reach
RadiusThe minimum is 1 km, and a tight area can mean ads appear only some of the timeAs far as you would travel for a three-day bathroom
Monthly budgetSpending is paced to 30.4 times the average daily budget whatever the schedule saysLift the daily budget for October, lower it for December
Call buttonThe call asset can be set to show only in the hours you answerHide it while your hands are in adhesive; the photo quote form takes over
ConversionsA call can count once it passes a length you choose, and forwarding numbers log calls over 15 secondsCount photo quote forms and calls long enough to give a size
Ad copy claimsUK law bans showing a trust mark without authorisation; Google bans implying backing you do not haveShow The Tile Association logo only while you are a member

The Tile Association offers its members use of its logo and tells homeowners its members "meet high standards of service and quality". For a member, that belongs in the ad. For anyone else, it is a banned practice under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and a breach of Google's misrepresentation policy. Treat that as a summary of the rules, not advice on how to word your own ads. More on the trade itself, including what bought tiling leads cost, is in tiling leads, and building an account from nothing is in how to set up Google Ads.

The bigger picture

The bathroom job should come to you alone.

A bought tiling lead usually goes to other tilers too, so you price a bathroom against people you never meet. Your own ad, sending the homeowner to your own website and your own number, means the quote is yours to win or lose. When we run Google Ads for a tiler, the account sits in the tiler's name and on the tiler's card. Google bills them direct for every click, and the account, with every search term and result in it, stays with them whatever happens between us.

Why sharing a lead costs more than the price on it is explained in the shared lead trap.

Straight answers

What tilers ask about Google Ads.

Are Google Ads worth it for a tiler?
For bathrooms, they can be. "tiler near me" averaged £3.33 a click in UK keyword data pulled August 2026. At a US benchmark conversion rate of 7.33% and MyJobQuote's figure of one quote won in 3, that is roughly £136 of advertising per job won: half of a £275 splashback, but a much smaller share of a £800 to £1,200 bathroom. Aim the ads at whole bathrooms and price the small jobs from photos.
How much does a tiler pay per click in the UK?
In Google's Keyword Planner for the UK (October 2026), the top-of-page bid for "bathroom tilers near me" ran £1.03 to £3.91, "kitchen tilers near me" £0.74 to £3.77 and "floor tilers near me" £0.69 to £2.11. Those are ranges for showing above the free results, not what you will pay on average, which depends on your own account and area.
Can tilers use Google Local Services Ads in the UK?
There is no tiling category on Google's UK list. There is a Flooring services category, which Google describes as floor installation, repair, sanding and refinishing, without mentioning tiles or walls. A tiler who mostly lays floors can read that description and decide whether to apply; Google decides at screening. Wall tiling, splashbacks and shower walls have no category, so for that work Google Ads means Search ads.
What negative keywords should a tiler use?
Retailer and showroom names first: "b&q tiles" alone is searched about 12,100 times a month in the UK. Then the do-it-yourself alternatives to hiring you, such as "sticky floor tiles" (12,100) and "painted tile" (22,200), plus tool searches, carpet shops and directory names. Google does not extend a negative to plurals or synonyms, so add each form you want blocked.
Should I add "tiles" as a negative keyword?
Only if you do not want regrouting work. A negative for "tiles" stops most shopping searches, but it also stops "regrouting tiles" (880 a month). A negative for "tile" is worse: it blocks "tile company near me" and "tile fitters near me", who want to hire. Neither touches "tiler" or "tilers". Block the shopping words that sit next to tiles instead.
When should a tiler spend most on Google Ads?
UK searches for "tilers near me" ran between 5,400 and 6,600 a month for most of the year, jumped to 12,100 in October and fell to 3,600 in December (Google Ads keyword data pulled September 2026, given as rounded bands). Keep a steady budget, lift it for October and trim it for December, using the daily budget rather than the ad schedule.
