£31 a lead, for a £75 call-out or an £8,000 bifold gate.

Leads Do Work sells electric gate leads at £31 each plus VAT, and up to 5 firms can chase the same one. Wiizard Leads sells gate leads it says go to one installer, but keeps its price back. A referral site backed by motor maker Benincà passes homeowners to its registered installers. Buy the click yourself and an electric gate search costs £1.65 to £7.94.

The single price is the problem. From a homeowner, a gate jammed half open and a new sliding gate across a long drive both cost £31 to hear about.

What Google thinks you mean

Search "electric gate leads" and you get cable.

On 1 October 2026, seven of the top twelve UK results for "electric gate leads uk" were cable or wiring products and the other five were shops selling gate kits. The questions Google suggested were about what size cable a gate motor needs. This guide is about the other kind of lead: a customer who wants a gate installed, mended or serviced.

Where we stand

We don't sell electric gate leads. We help you get your own.

This guide is the honest version of what buying electric gate leads costs, and who else gets them. What we do instead is build gate installers a website that turns visits into calls, and run Google Ads in an account in your own name, so every lead that comes in is a customer who found you, and nobody else was sold it.

What you are buying

One gate price on the list, whether it's a call-out or a bifold.

Leads Do Work files gates under security, beside CCTV and intercoms, as a single row called "Security | Gates". There's no split between a repair, a service, a motor on an old gate and a new sliding gate, and no public list of recent gate leads to see the mix. So the table below works the one price through every size of gate job, at one win in every 3 quotes.

Gate jobTypical UK priceLead cost per winShare of the job
A repair call-out charge£50 to £100£93124%
A year of gate maintenance£100 to £300£9347%
Replace a broken gate motor£300 to £1,800£939%
3m aluminium swing gate, fittedfrom £3,000£933%
3m aluminium sliding gate, fittedfrom £5,000£932%
3m aluminium bifold gate, fittedfrom £8,000£931%

Job prices are from Checkatrade's gate installation guide (June 2026) and repair guide (its table dated May 2024), and from MyJobQuote's cost guide (September 2026). The three whole-gate rows are Checkatrade's starting prices for a 3m aluminium gate, supplied and fitted. Ranges are worked at their middle. One win in 3 is MyJobQuote's figure for its own trades; nobody publishes an independent UK rate. The lead price is Leads Do Work's £31, before VAT.

As a rough rule, winning a job should cost about 10 to 15 percent of what it pays. Every whole gate sits far below that: the lead is 3% of a swing gate and 1% of a bifold. A replacement motor comes in at 9%. The call-out is where it breaks: at 124% you pay more to win it than the customer pays you to turn up.

If the lead is a gate stuck half open

The call-out loses money on its own. It pays only if you find the worn motor, sell the safety edge the gate never had, or sign the owner up for servicing. Ask what the gate is doing before you drive out, so you know which of those is likely.

If it says "automate my gates"

Ask what the gates are made of and how old they are before you price it. Benincà's referral site warns homeowners that "often old softwood gates are not suitable for automation". Powering the customer's own gate also brings the legal duties covered further down.

Your numbers

What can you pay for a gate lead and still make money on the job?

Start from a gate job or type in what your average install comes to. Set how many quotes you win, then enter a seller's price to see what each won gate costs you. It opens on a 3m swing gate. Flip it to the call-out and watch the same lead price swallow the whole job.

Who sells them

Two lead sellers, three directories, and two networks you have to qualify for.

Gate work has far fewer lead sellers than most trades. We checked Zapo, Lead Pronto, Leads Everyday, PromoSEO and TextBadger Marketing, which all sell leads to other home trades, and none had a gate page. The seven routes that do send gate customers to installers are below, each quoted from its own website.

Leads Do Work charges £10 more for a gate than a fence

Its Connect price list puts a gate lead at £31 from a homeowner and £41 from a business, plus VAT and an £11 weekly fee, and says "The number of leads is not guaranteed". Its terms allow 1 to 3 other firms on the same job and cap it at 5. A return for a lead that turns out to be a manual garden gate is "manually reviewed", so put that question to them before signing. A wooden fence lead on the same list is £10 less; our fencing leads guide covers that side.

Wiizard sells exclusive gate leads and no price

Wiizard Leads, run by an Accrington marketing firm, has a page for electric driveway gate installers promising "Pre-screened prospects actively searching for installation or repair services". It says each lead is "never shared with other companies", offers "Pay per lead or monthly", and that "If a lead doesn't match your services or service area, you don't pay." It does not say what a lead costs or where the customers come from, which are the two questions to ask first.

The motor maker that hands out the customers

Electric Gate Quote is "Supported by Benincà", the gate automation maker. A homeowner fills in a form and "A registered installer in your area will promptly reach out". Its installers get Benincà's "regular training and a dedicated technical support department", plus a two-year warranty on the motors and controls. It is Benincà's registered network, so the route in is fitting Benincà kit. One customer review on the site says they were "recommended two local installers", so do not assume you are the only one called. The site publishes nothing about what installers pay.

Gate Safe sends customers to installers it has trained

Gate Safe, a charity set up in 2010, runs a register "connecting trained installers with customers seeking appropriately trained installers", searchable by postcode. The register is of installers who have done its IIRSM-approved gate safety training. That costs time rather than a price per lead, and Gate Safe is one of the two bodies HSE names for gate competence training.

Bark, Checkatrade and TrustATrader list gate firms

Bark has an Electric Gates category for "automated gates & bollards", where the customer posts once and Bark will "do the legwork to contact them on your behalf". Its credits cost £1.80 each and up to 5 professionals can respond. Checkatrade splits gates into Gate Automation, Electric Gate Repair, Electric Gate Supplier and Electric Gate Wiring, with an Approved tier at £30 a month and lead plans "from £59/mo". TrustATrader lists Electric Gate Installers, takes the year's fee up front and says "Memberships are limited per area". What a customer seen by five installers does to your price is in the shared-lead trap.

Everything here about Leads Do Work's contract comes from its own published terms and conditions, last read on 1 October 2026. Terms get revised, so check yours against the current version before you act on anything.

Rather have electric gate leads that are yours alone?

That's what we do. We don't sell leads. We build the website and run the Google Ads that bring customers straight to you, in an ad account in your name that stays yours if you ever leave.

Buying the click yourself

Servicing clicks cost the most. The cheapest search is full of kit buyers.

Nobody searches for gate leads to buy: Google Ads shows no searches at all for "electric gate leads" or nine ways of saying it. The money is on the homeowner's side, and it is upside down. "electric gate servicing" is the dearest search in the table at £7.94 a click, ahead of "electric gate installers" at £6.05. Plain "electric gates" costs £2.23 across 6,600 searches a month. The per-lead column assumes 7.33% of clicks get in touch, which is WordStream's conversion rate for home improvement search ads. That is US data, so treat it as a rough guide.

Google Ads data for the UK, pulled 1 October 2026. Click prices are bid estimates, so expect to pay around them rather than exactly them.

A lead off "electric gate servicing" works out at about £108, for a visit MyJobQuote prices at £100 to £300 a year. A lead off "electric gate repair near me" is about £82, more than the £50 to £100 call-out it might bring. At the other end, "electric gates" gives a lead for about £30 and "sliding electric gates" about £23, for gates that start at £3,000 and £5,000.

The catch with that cheap end is who else is searching. On 1 October 2026 the top results for "electric gates" were shops selling gate kits and motors, and "electric gate kits" (1,300 a month) and "electric gate motor" (880) sit right beside it. A broad match ad on "electric gates" will pay for DIY clicks unless kits, motors and parts are blocked as negative keywords from day one. Across the table your own leads cost £23 to £108, against Leads Do Work's £31. The difference is what you control:

  • Bid hard on new gates, lightly on call-outs
  • Kits and motors blocked as negatives
  • Your firm named on the ad they tap
  • Gate photos and prices on your website
  • Clicks billed by Google, not a reseller
  • An ad account that stays yours

Bidding, match types and who holds the account are all in the Google Ads guide for tradesmen. For a gate firm's budget, start with how much to spend on Google Ads.

No gate category in Local Services Ads

Google's UK list of Local Services Ads categories runs from appliance repair to window repair and has nothing for gates. It does have fencing services and garage door services. If a seller says it gets your gate leads through Local Services Ads, ask which category, and whose business the customer saw. Our Local Services Ads guide covers how the listings work where they do exist.

Before you quote a motor

HSE investigated a child killed at a powered gate. Here is what it found wrong.

HSE's safety bulletin describes the death of a nine-year-old at electric gates across the driveway to a block of privately owned flats. The child reached through to press an exit button and was trapped as the gate opened. Three details matter to anyone pricing gate work from a lead:

A gap that closed on opening

"The installation left a gap of 160mm at its widest point" between the gate and the brick pillar, and it shrank to 110mm as the gate swung open. Stepped brick pillars and where the gate sat on the motor arm made it.

Sensors that didn't stop it

The motors could detect obstacles, but were "ineffective due to the forces involved at the spine of the gate". The light beam between the pillars "was not designed to identify the presence of a person in the crushing zone".

A button the public could reach

The pedestrian exit button sat inside the site but "within reach of persons on the outside". HSE wants a risk assessment at design stage and a final one "When the installation is complete".

HSE's gate safety guidance adds that most vehicle beams "can usually be easily circumnavigated, eg by stepping over", that a 2006 child death was partly put down to the hinge area of a gate, and that hinge hazards are harder to design out when converting an existing gate. Where force limitation is the safety method, it wants objective force testing "along the lines of EN12445".

That is the job a lead reading "automate my existing gates" is asking for. HSE says that when existing manual gates are converted to power, the installer in most cases "becomes the product manufacturer", and the same goes for a kit fitted in a way its maker did not intend. The DHF adds that installers and domestic owners can also be "liable under UK civil law" after an incident. What being the manufacturer means on paper, from the Declaration of Conformity to the marking plate, is set out in our garage door leads guide. Motorise roller shutters as well as gates? That work gets its own write-up in roller shutter leads. For gates, price the survey, the force test and the safety edges into the quote rather than finding them on the day.

After the install

Every gate you fit should bring you back twice a year.

Gate Safe recommends every automatic gate is serviced "at least every six months by a trained installer". A private homeowner has no legal duty to book it, and HSE agrees health and safety law does not reach them, but Gate Safe says the owner "is still liable for safety". Checkatrade prices service plans at £150 to £750 a year depending on how often you visit. That is the recurring work a bought lead never hands you.

The service visit that becomes a quote

The DHF answers a question installers ask about gates they maintain that have no safety edges. EN 12453 allows hold to run, safe contact or non-contact sensing, and the installer has to "decide whether the system employed achieves compliance". Where it doesn't, that is a quote for edges or light grids on a customer who already trusts you.

The house that counts as a workplace

Gate Safe's view is that "a house which employs a gardener or secretary is considered a commercial property" for gate safety. HSE says gates at workplaces and in the shared parts of residential sites are covered by health and safety law. Ask who else uses the gate when you quote a service plan.

Through the year

Gate repair searches went up 5 times between December and January.

UK searches for "electric gate repair near me" fell to 720 in December, jumped to 3,600 in January and peaked at 4,400 in March, about 6.1 times the low. Searches for "electric gates near me" followed the same shape. We found nothing about seasons on any seller's gate page, and no source that explains the jump.

Have the repair budget ready for January

If repairs are a way in to motors and service plans for you, the first quarter is when the searches are there. A repair campaign switched on in April has already missed the two biggest months.

Use December for your own customers

The quietest month for searches is the time to book the six-monthly services you already owe, before the phone gets busy.

Where the lead came from

Ask a gate lead seller where the customer came from before you pay.

The ICO says a firm buying marketing data has to make its own proportionate checks, and that it is "not enough to simply accept a third party's assurances". Skean Homes found that out in January 2024: fined £100,000 over home improvement calls to people on the TPS, after blaming its lead provider. We found no ICO case against a gate firm. A seller that can't tell you which website or ad the customer used has given you nothing to check.

Five questions for any electric gate lead seller:

  • Which site or ad did the customer use?
  • Does their consent name my firm?
  • How many installers get the same lead?
  • Is it a new gate, a motor or a repair?
  • Can I return a manual gate or fence?

Keep each seller's answers in writing alongside the leads you bought from them. If a complaint ever comes, that note is your due diligence.

Which way to go

Buy gate leads for installs. Build the servicing list yourself.

Buy per lead if

  • Most of your work is new gates
  • £31 is small beside £3,000
  • The seller takes back fence leads
  • You can survey within days

Think twice if

  • Call-outs are most of your work
  • Up to 5 firms get the customer
  • The price is never written down
  • Nobody says where it came from

Run your own if

  • You want sliding and bifold jobs
  • You service what you fit
  • You can block the kit buyers
  • You want the account in your name

A gate firm earns on the install and then on every service after it, so the leads worth paying for are the ones that start that run. Driveway firms often price gates alongside the drive; how their leads are sold is in our driveway leads guide. Every other trade's numbers are in our guide to trade leads.

Our sources

Where each electric gate figure on this page came from.

Fair question, given we build websites and run Google Ads for trades: we have an interest here. So each seller is quoted from its own website, and the tables show where buying a lead beats paying for clicks.

Seller pages and terms were read on 1 October 2026, and the UK search and click data was pulled from Google Ads the same day. Job prices are from Checkatrade's installation and repair guides and MyJobQuote's cost guide. The safety material is from HSE's powered gate duties, gate safety guidance and safety bulletin, the Door and Hardware Federation and Gate Safe. Local Services Ads categories are from Google's help page, cancellation from the Consumer Contracts Regulations, and lead consent from the ICO.

Questions gate installers ask

Electric gate leads, answered.

How much do electric gate leads cost in the UK?
Leads Do Work is the only seller we found that prints a price: £31 a gate lead from a homeowner and £41 from a business, plus VAT and an £11 weekly fee. Wiizard Leads sells gate leads per lead or by the month without publishing a figure, and Bark charges in credits at £1.80 each. Running your own Google Ads, a click on an electric gate search costs £1.65 to £7.94.
Are electric gate leads shared with other installers?
On Leads Do Work, 1 to 3 other firms usually get the same customer and never more than 5. Bark lets up to 5 professionals respond. Wiizard Leads says its gate leads are "never shared with other companies". One Electric Gate Quote customer says they were "recommended two local installers".
Does converting a manual gate to electric make me the manufacturer?
In most cases, yes. HSE says that where existing manual gates are reused and converted to power operation, the converter or installer "becomes the product manufacturer", with the marking, Declaration of Conformity and instructions that go with it. The same applies to a gate kit installed in a way its maker did not intend. Our garage door leads guide goes through that paperwork step by step.
How often should an electric gate be serviced?
Gate Safe, the gate safety charity, recommends every automatic gate is serviced at least every 6 months by a trained installer. HSE says health and safety law does not apply to the owner of a gate on a private home, but strongly recommends regular checks. Gates on workplaces and shared residential sites are covered by the law.
Can electric gate companies use Google Local Services Ads in the UK?
Google's UK list of Local Services Ads categories has no gate category. It does list fencing services and garage door services, so ask any seller that names Local Services Ads as a channel which category your gate leads come through.
Can a customer cancel an urgent electric gate repair?
Not the urgent repair itself, if they asked you out to do it. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 take that visit out of the 14-day cancellation right. A new motor, a safety edge or a service contract agreed on the same visit keeps the right, so give the cancellation information with that quote.
When do people search for electric gate repairs most?
In the last 12 months, UK searches for "electric gate repair near me" were highest in March at 4,400 and lowest in December at 720, about 6.1 times apart. January was 5 times December.
What should I check before buying electric gate leads?
Where the customer filled in their details, whether the consent names your firm, how many other installers get the same lead, and whether you can return one that turns out to be a manual gate or a fence. The ICO says a buyer must make its own checks and cannot rely on the seller's word.
